Amazing home remedies for ear infections

Earaches can be very uncomfortable, and they occur often among small children rather than adults. There are many causes of pain in the ear such as:

  • Liquid in the ear, such as water, shampoo
  • Sinusitis
  • Wax in the ear
  • Chronic or acute ear inflammation (otitis)
  • Physical damage to the inside of ear
  • Damage to the teeth or teeth infection
  • Perforated eardrum
  • Eczema of the ear canal
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • An increase in air pressure

A simple ear pain can be taken care of easily at home with natural remedies. Treating the pain naturally is healthier instead of using painkillers. Despite that you probably have these ingredients available in your kitchen.

The following natural remedies have proven to be very helpful for those who want instant ear pain relief:

1. Garlic in Olive Oil

Olive oil can provide fast relief from an earache. It serves as a lubricant and helps get rid of an infection in the ear. The antibiotic properties of garlic can help reduce earache caused by an ear infection.


  • 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) olive oil
  • 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil

How to make: Place garlic and olive oil in a small sauce pan on low heat.  Cook at least 8 hours.  Strain, squeezing well to get as much oil as possible out of the garlic.  Add eucalyptus essential oil and mix well.  Store in a tinted bottle.

How to use:  Place glass eyedropper in a stream of hot water for 1 minutes (to warm dropper).  Dry quickly (to retain heat) and suction up ear oil from bottle.  Place 2 drops in both ears every half hour or as often as needed for 2 to 7 days.

2. Garlic Mullein Ear Oil


  • 1 head of garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • 1/2 oz. dried mullein flowers or leaves
  • extra virgin olive oil

How to make: Infuse the flower/leaves and garlic in olive oil. Strain your oil, store in a dark glass bottle.

How to use: Warm the bottle by placing it in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes. Be sure to test the oil on your forearm, as you would warmed baby bath or milk. (This is only meant to gently WARM the oil, not to make it hot. Your ear drum will not benefit from hot oil being poured down it.) Drop 2-3 drops of warm oil into each ear every 4 hours as needed.

3. Essential Oil Ear Ache Rub


  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 10 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil

Mix all ingredients and apply gently around the ears at the first sign of infection.  This remedy is effective in reducing infection and relieving inflammation.

4. Basil Juice

Crush some basil leaves and extract the juice, apply 3-4 drops of it in the aching ear, do twice a day. Due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic properties, basil juice works good for relieving earaches.

5. Bishop’s Weed

Because of its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, Bishop’s weed is also an effective natural remedy for ear infections.

1) Bishop’s weed oil with sesame oil

  • 1 teaspoon of Bishop’s oil
  • 3 teaspoons of sesame oil

Mix these two ingredients well and warm it slightly. Put a few drops of the oil mixture in the ear, it works.

2) Bishop’s weed with garlic

  • one-half teaspoon of Bishop’s weed
  • two teaspoons of mustard oil
  • garlic

Heat the mustard oil and add Bishop’s weed with a couple of garlic flakes. Heat the mixture until the garlic turns red. Filter it and put a few drops in your ear as ear drops.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

Applecider vinegar changes the pH of the ear canal, creating an environment where bacteria and viruses cannot thrive. So make eardrops by apple cider vinegar is helpful for treating ear infections.

How to make:

Choose the organic apple cider vinegar and heat it, test on the inside of the wrist for the temperature.

Place a few drops of this warm apple cider vinegar in the painful ear and cover with a piece of cotton.
